Cataloguing Guidelines

The CCUC Cataloguing Guidelines set the catalographic standards to be followed by the participating libraries. These have been developed and agreed by the consortial institutions and are essential for maintaining the quality and coherence of the catalogue.

Its main objectives are to facilitate and expedite the cataloging and interpretation of cataloging regulations. Specialized groups, born for the creation of guidelines, become a pillar for sharing doubts and problems that can be solved together.

The guidelines are structured in:

  • Cataloguing levels: they contain the list of all MARC21 fields that must be included in at least one bibliographic record created in the CCUC. For each type of material there are different cataloguing levels.
  • Cataloguing guidelines: it specifies how to use each field of the MARC21 format.
  • CCUC working procedures: it includes instructions on how to catalogue, how the library management system works and how to use some of the related services, such as the cover image repository or the GEPA cooperative repository.
