THE CONSORTIUM

Areas of Activity

Our services are delevoped in several areas of activity: scientific computing, communications, electronic administration, repositories and applications, library services, open science, joint procurement, shared services management, training and dissemination, cloud infraestructure and other DC services.

Scientific Computing

It provides computing services, not only to academic researchers but also to the industrial field, with a wide range of scientific software available. It manages the Drug Design Service (SDF) which helps pharmaceutical laboratories and research groups to develop more efficiency new medicines.

Communications

Focused on the management of the Anella Científica, the high-performance academic network that connects universities, research centers and other R&D institutions of the Catalan territory, and provides them access to the RedIRIS nodes in Catalonia (hosted on CSUC), connecting to the global research networks via Géant. The Area also manages the Catalonia Neutral Internet Exchange Point (CATNIX), which facilitates the exchange of traffic between operators and content providers.

Electronic Administration

It provides electronic administration services (e-Administration), born from the collaborative work with the Catalan Association of Public Universities (ACUP), through which the implementation of services such as Voting, Registring, Archiving, Logs and Document Manager at universities is promoted.

Repositories and Applications

It develops, implements and manages institutional digital repositories such as PADICAT, CALAIXFilmotecaScientia, MACBA… as well as interuniversity applications (UNEIX, Unidiscat, Intercat…). 

Library Services

It contributes to the improvement of library services through cooperation. Among other programs and services, it manages the University Union Catalogue of Catalonia (CCUC), the consortial borrowing, the library management system and the GEPA cooperative warehouse.

Open Science

It collaborates with universities to reduce the effort to adapt to the requirements of Open Science, and increases the visibility of the research done in Catalonia through CORA (Catalan Open Research Area), which includes the Research Portal of Catalonia, eiNa DMP for research data management, and the Research Data Repository. It also supports open access through cooperative repositories such as TDX, RECERCAT, RACO, MDX… 

Joint Procurement

It improves and rationalizes the use of resources and it helps to strengthen the university and research system. It homogenizes applications, platforms and technologies, bringing together the procurement of resources and basic services like electricity, gas, cleaning, printing and reprography, and mobile telephony, among others.

Shared Services Management

It is responsible for the administrative and economic management of several programs and projects in the field of universities: the Pla Serra Húnter for the recruitment of teachers, the Pla de Doctorats Industrials to contribute to the competitiveness and internationalization of Catalan industry, the indicators of the university information system collected at UNEIX ...

Training and Dissemination

Area that contributes to disseminating these services through its web, its corporate blog and digital newsletters. It also fosters training in these technologies through the organization of conferences, courses, seminars and workshops (JOCS, TAC, TSIUC...). 

Cloud Infraestructure and other DC Services

It provides academic and research institutions with a cloud infrastructure service so that they can place their applications in a flexible and easily scalable environment in the form of managed or pay per use servers. This infrastructure allows, for example, access to serveral institutional, university or information society-related websites, as well as hosting numerous applications (ERP, mail ...).
